Heard on the campaign trail...

Here are some of our favorite political tidbits we've heard on our Summer Travels the last month:

***

"I'll do the right thing, because it is the right thing to do." has to be my favorite campaign subtitle of the last 10 years. It says everything and nothing in 13 words. Kudos to Kathy Bernier for coming up with it (or paying one of the many floating GOP consultants for it).  We'll see if it's bland, inoffensive nothing-ness can garner her more votes than those of some of her coworkers at the Chippewa County Courthouse who would just love to see her leave - and go to Madison.

***

We heard a radio ad for Ron Johnson on WCCO while in the Minneapolis area not long ago.  Aside from not mentioning Russ Feingold, his Republican-ness or even Wisconsin for that matter (We think - it took a second out two to get over the shock that we were hearing a Wi campaign ad in MN) what stood out was the tag line - Paid for by Ron Johnson for Senate, Incorporated.   It raises the questions, In light of the Citizen's United decision, will incorporating a federal campaign give it carte blanche to acquire and spend money?

***

And from our favorite two time electoral loser, Terry Moulton we saw this tweet: "Heading to Menard's Good Gov. Days to speak to local managers on improving our economy with fiscal responsibility and reduced gov. spending." The State's lone billionaire puts on a "Good Government Day?"  Is this the long whispered about but never confirmed forum where Menard implicitly coerces his managers to give money to GOP candidates? We can only assume some of the talk was about lowering Mr. Menard's tax burden, keeping wages low and eliminating regulations that would allow him and his management staff to take home contaminated trash to put in our landfills.

I've heard that rumor, and what I've never heard is an employee of Menard's say a good thing about John.
