Duffy to Lassa: "Debate Me 1 Trillion Times or You're a Coward!!"

Give Sean Duffy credit for being faster on the draw in the "OK Corral" of debate challenges.  He knows exactly how the game is played nowadays, and he beat Julie fair and square... for something that nobody will remember after this week.

As noted in the Wausau paper: Duffy issued an early challenge to Lassa Wednesday, just hours after the primary was over, asking her to commit to 20 debates, one in each county in the district, before the Nov. 2 election.

Whoa, 20 debates!  I don't think Sean really wants to debate 20 times.  Maybe he just wants to hang out with Julie 20 times, road tripping together around the state like the campaign is some kind of new chapter of "The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Northern Wisconsin."  Does Mrs. Lumberjack think this is a good idea, being left home alone with their 6 kids?  (I hear she's already been doing it for almost 4 months now, since Sean moved to Wausau to run his campaign.)

Alright, I'm just teasing - back to my real point: Duffy knows that you get a one-day PR victory if you're the first one to suggest a number of debates and your opponent responds by offering a lower number.  Feingold proposed 6 debates.  Ron Johnson countered by accepting 3 - Feingold gets to call Johnson a chicken.  Duffy comes up with the number 20, cleverly tied to one for each county, and knows Lassa will likely come back with, "C'mon, Sean, let's have 3 - one for each TV market in the district... or 6 if you hold radio debates in three other locations like Rice Lake, Ashland and Stevens Point."  Either way, it's less than 20, so Duffy will quickly accept any Lassa number, call her chicken, and win that one-day PR victory that no one will remember after this week.

So there's your lesson, boys and girls, if you want to be a successful politician like Sean Duffy in the next election cycle.  Challenge your opponent to 365 debates ("'Cuz I can out-debate you every day of the year!"), and when they politely decline, yell "Chicken!" and claim victory.  It's brilliant... and kinda sad.
