Candidates Come & Go On Short Notice

Signature day came and went yesterday with little fanfare. Politicians of all stripes re-invaded Madison to file the requisite number of signatures on petitions to get on the fall ballot... or they didn't.  In every cycle there are people who make noise about running and get some free publicity then mysteriously fail to actually file.  Such is the case in both the 67th and 68th Assembly districts where a Democrat in one and a Republican in the other aren't really candidates after all.

GOP still looking for a Social DeLorean

With a party that includes candidates who have second thoughts about the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Senators who trash the work of Thurgood Marshall, it shouldn't be a surprise that today's Republicans would embrace anything undoes what most Americans would generally call "progress." Apparently, it sounds too much like "Progressive,"&nbsp

Something NOT in the Air

We here in Wisconsin are lucky. We have not one, but two candidates for governor who are in favor of more cancer.
That’s right. They want MORE cancer. Both Republicans Mark Neumann and Scott Walker are competing to see who can be more supportive of those insidious dividing cells by repealing the long fought-for and incredibly popular statewide smoke-free law.

I guess the newly carcinogen free air has been so invigorating it’s gone straight to their heads causing delirium and dementia.

Don Huebscher's Annual Vacation (and other media matters)

Today marks that one special Sunday that comes along every summer... when the Leader Telegram editorial page shows some actual balance and we know that Don Huebscher is on vacation.  We wonder where Republican curmudgeons spend their summer vacations... maybe it's a special camp where they trade recipes for Freedom Fries, catch up on Fox News shows they've been missing and yell at camp counselors in an exercise titled "Get Off My Lawn!"  (Of course this is pure fantasy - none of today's newspaper editors misses a single show on Fox News.)

Our State Fair is... Politics Central!

Big Political Cheese was created because there’s a lot of politickin’ going on beyond Madison, Milwaukee and the AM radio dial.  And this week’s Northern Wisconsin State Fair proves it.

Ron Johnson - GOBP candidate for Senate

Let's see how long is takes him to apologize to BP for the "Obama Slush Fund."

After today's revelation, how do you not assume Ron Johnson is more interested in his personal financial portfolio than the millions of peoples lives and livelihoods that BP has devastated?

And how does this make him qualified to be our U.S. Senator?

Some Public Sector sanity

Came across this today.  I've never been a big Joe Klein fan, but I think he hits on something important here:

Ideology Ad Absurdum Watch

Some fun stuff from our neighbors to the West.  Here's a taste:

Guns in Wisconsin ctd

I can only re-emphasize the points of my last post on this subject in light of this report regarding the Jackson County DA deciding to no longer prosecute people who carry concealed weapons.  This is not going to go away before the election.  Take this arrow out of the GOP quiver now, beofre it gets aimed at Democrats.
